Mitra Behroozi is the Executive Director of the 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds, which provide comprehensive self-insured, self-administered healthcare and retirement benefits to more than 400,000 members and retirees of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and their dependents. In this capacity, she manages and oversees the spending of more than $2 billion a year in healthcare claims, employing targeted cost-savings strategies that have saved the Funds nearly $4 billion during her 15-year tenure. Ms. Behroozi also oversees the administrative infrastructure supporting the entire Family of Funds.

Prior to joining the Funds in 2003, she was a partner in Levy, Ratner & Behroozi, P.C. (now known as Levy Ratner, P.C.), a law firm specializing in labor, employment and employee benefits law, and served as principal counsel for 1199SEIU. As Union counsel to the Child Care Funds, she worked to support and expand members’ access to child-care benefits. Ms. Behroozi serves on the Board of Directors of New York’s major downstate Regional Health Information Organization, Healthix, on the Board of the Northeast Business Group on Health and on the Advisory Board of Fordham University’s Global Healthcare Innovation Management Center. She served two terms as a Commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and has also served on the National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). In 2018 and 2019, she was recognized as a “Notable Woman in Health Care” by Crain’s New York Business.

Ms. Behroozi received her BA from Brown University and her JD from NYU Law School.
