Thank You for Your Support of Our Tenth Annual Care for Kids Gala

On behalf of all of the Trustees, staff, and the children and families served by the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Corporation, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your support of our tenth annual Care for Kids Gala, which was held on December 6, 2016, at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. This event would not have been a success without generous supporters like you.

This year, our theme was Planting the Dream: The Flowers of Tomorrow Are the Seeds of Today, which embodies the goals we have set throughout the vast portfolio of programs for our children. We were honored to recognize the outstanding work of four individuals who epitomize the mission of the Child Care Corporation and the Child Care Funds: Dr. Rosa M. Gil, President and CEO of Comunilife, Inc.; Keith Mestrich, President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank; Sheena Wright, President and CEO of United Way of New York City; and Dawna Michelle Fields, National Program Director for the Colgate-Palmolive Company. Their commitment to the children of New York City and to the families struggling to balance work and family responsibilities is extraordinary and noteworthy.

As you are aware, balancing the competing demands of jobs and children is one of the toughest issues faced by families and employers. The Child Care Corporation helps to ease the financial burden on families by providing services and subsidies for children and youth from infancy through college years. For more than two decades, the Child Care Corporation and the Child Care Funds have helped provide more than 200,000 children of 1199SEIU members and the community at large with access to early childhood education, summer day and sleep-away camps, internships, mentoring, college scholarships and many other programs. This year alone, through our Joseph Tauber Scholarship Program, we distributed over seven million dollars in scholarships. Funds raised at the Care for Kids Gala will enable us to expand our unique programs and services, and allow us the opportunity to establish a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) program for our youngest children at our Future of America Learning Center in the Bronx.

Once again, we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you in 2017, as we continue to plant the dreams for our children and youth.

Best wishes for the New Year!

Sincerely,
Vivian Fox
